Junior Red Cross

‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.’

The world today does not need just humans but needs Humanity. The Junior Red Cross of SVS inspires and instills in its volunteers the motto of “Health, Service , Friendship “. The inauguration of the various service units of SVS for the academic year was held on   30.06.2017. Mr. David Abraham, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Madras Christian College was the chief guest. He delivered an inspiring and thought provoking message to the volunteers.

The Junior Red Cross is led by Sree Ranjini of X B as President and P.Priadarshini of IX B as its Secretary. Keeping in mind the different fundamental principles of Junior Red Cross and to imbibe humanitarian values, some important days were observed:  a) Child Labour Eradication Day on June 12th, to create awareness among fellow students and the general public by exhibiting placards and displaying banners. b) World Blood Donors day on June 14th, a brief message was delivered on the need of safe blood, blood products and to thank all the blood donors for their voluntary life – saving gifts of blood. c) World Hepatitis Day on July 28th, a day dedicated to encourage global awareness, action and support to prevent and treat viral hepatitis. Every fornight health tips are enumerated emphasizing the importance of a healthy and hygienic lifestyle.

A one day trip to Anna Arivalayum, M G R Illam, Kamarajar Illam and Valluvar Kottam helped the students reminisce some historical events. The field trip to the Organic Farm at Atthur village turned out to be a thorough mix of fun and frolic, having a great impact on the students giving an insight on the use of organic manure ensuring a safe and healthy environment. We express our gratitude to our beloved Principal Rev. Fr. Johny Koyikkara, C.M., our Vice Principal Rev. Fr. Arockia Doss for their support and guidance for the success of our service.

All acts of service are meaningless unless they are given with love.
