Road Safety Patrol

Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others.

Jackson Brown. Jr.

The Road Safety Patrol is a service to mankind that ensures an accident free life. Road safety knowledge is useful in our day today life as it relates to the safety on roads as every one of us use the road in our daily life in some form or other.

Road Safety Patrol Chennai Unit was initiated by the Madras Traffic Wardens Organization, Tamil Nadu in 1982. The idea of school students helping the police to regulate traffic was mooted by the fact that it was not possible to depute a police officer for each and every school.

The RSP cadets are the medium through which the road safety education is disseminated to the society. They learn the road safety rules and practice them for their safety and also for the fellow beings.  A trained RSP cadet knows the dangers of the road and by his conduct prevents accidents as he has a commitment to the society as the motto of RSP is “We Live to Serve”.

St. Vincent’s Road Safety Patrol  was started in 2003 with 100 cadets. Now we have grown with 250 cadets deployed on traffic duties in front of the school and nearby points to the school premises.

The inauguration of the service units for this academic year 2017 -18 was held on 23rd of June. Mr. David Abraham, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Madras Christian College was the chief guest. In his inaugural address he emphasized the importance of rendering service to our human race to live a quality life.

A training programme was conducted for the RSP  co-ordinators and the teachers on 20.7.2017 at Bains Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Kilpauk. Our school co-ordinator Mr. Carmel received the best RSP co-ordinator award from Mr. Arun Kumar IPS, Joint Commissionor of Police (North).

Tamil Nadu Police Traffic Wardens Organization inaugurated the Road Safety Patrol unit for this academic year 2017-18 on 7th August at Doveton Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Purassaivakkam. Our school co-ordinator along with 25 cadets participated in the function. On 15th August, 50 RSP cadets and the co-ordinator took part in the Independence Day celebration at War Memorial Road, Chennai.

RSP cadets are given training in road safety rules, road signals and the first aid techniques regularly. They took part in awareness programmes and cycle rally holding placards emphasizing the road safety rules. They engage themselves enthusiastically in arranging the cycles in the school campus during the morning hours and regulating the traffic in front of the school. They guide the younger ones to reach their classrooms. Apart from these they eagerly take part in various competitions on road safety rules and signals.

We are very grateful to our dear Principal Rev. Fr. Johny Koyikkara, C.M., and our Vice Principal Rev. Fr. Arockia Doss, C.M., for their continuous support and guidance to reach our goals.

Without community service we would not have a strong quality of life. Our RSP cadets help others to grow up and they grow with them to make a difference in people’s lives so that they can lead a safe and sound life.
